Happy Birthday Matt

Today is my hubby's B-Day & instead of having German chocolate cake or a yummy cheese cake he settled on apple pie. It was kind of fun sticking candles in it & then watching him "bite the pie". (his family has a tradition that we have adopted of biting into the cake on their birthday before it is cut) We didn't really do anything extra special today because it was Sunday, but I have a surprise up my sleeve, so hopefully I can find a babysitter & make it up to him. I love you so much Matt & am more glad each year that we found each other!

Procrastination

I have always been a procrastinator & am at it again. I am teaching the lesson in R.S. tomorrow and still don't exactly have the lesson ready. Yea, I have read through it a couple of times, but for some reason I am having a really hard time sitting down & mapping out how I want the lesson to go.

The fact that my parents are here visiting is probably part of it, because I don't want to put my Mom to shame if I give a mediocre lesson! The other part is that my adult ADD seems to kick in whenever I have something important to do. (I am a self diagnosed ADD case) I wander around the house doing everything else possible instead of what I SHOULD be doing. Just like now; I am blogging when I should be planning!

Do any of you procrastinate? Why do you think you do it, and what can we do to stop this horrible habit?

Black Friday? It should be called, crazed sale shopping idiots day!

I have never gone and stood in line for an early morning deal, or "door buster" the day after Thanksgiving. I may or may not in the future, but finding out on the news today that a man was trampled to DEATH by crazed shoppers trying to get into Wal-Mart for the black Friday sales makes me think twice about ever considering it! SCARY!!

"Maybe She's Born with it?...Maybe it's Maybeline!"

Trinity has watched me put on my make up a few thousand times I'm sure. Whether I was doing it in my bathroom mirror, the front entrance mirror, or in the rear view mirror at every red stop light on the way to my destination in the car. At some point she really became fascinated with my first step; applying the concealer. Now that she is about to turn the ripe old age of 4 (in Jan) she decided that the time had come for her to start wearing make up.
She may need a lesson or two in quality control, but other than that she looks pretty darn pleased with her work! (I do not ever recall putting concealer on my arms-that was her own idea)

Boo Hoo BYU

All of my fellow "football wives" may already know that BYU played against UTAH on Saturday for a really important game. (This next part will be quoted from Matt) "It is the LAST game of the season, it's BYU vs UTAH, it decides who gets a ticket to the BCS Bowl." (Then I ask-what is a BCS Bowl?) "It's like the national championships" (I think he got tired of my questions & dumbed it down for me!) Any-who...BYU ended up losing & Matt being the UTAH fan that he is was pretty excited about it, but if you are a BYU fan lets be honest, you were probably feeling a little bit like my bowl of Honey Combs:
We love BYU! We are disgruntled, depressed, & discouraged!

House to Home

When ever we move into a new place I never feel settled until everything is unpacked, put away, or hung on the walls. We have been here now for almost 4 months & are STILL working on getting to that point!

I finally got some pics printed up & put in frames for our front room, but didn't want to make a thousand holes in the wall trying to get them lined up right. I decided to try something I remembered seeing on TV once. I traced the picture frames onto newspaper & then cut those out and tested where they would look best to hang up. After I thought I had them in the perfect spot I left them until I could get Matt's help to hang the actual pictures.

We didn't end up getting to it as soon as I had hoped, so instead of nice new family pictures we had random newspaper clippings hanging on the wall in our front room. I think both of us just got used to them being there & didn't even think about it anymore. Well, Matt decided to remind me that they were there AFTER we had just fed the 4 missionaries in our ward dinner. I felt so dumb because Matt said that they were all looking at the wall kind of funny. (Probably wondering why we had hung newspaper on the wall) I asked him if he explained what it was for and he said, "No, I thought it would be funny to just let them wonder."

A few other people came over while they were up, so I finally convinced Matt to help me hang up the pictures and now the newspaper is finally gone! Slowly but surely our new place doesn't just feel like a house, but more of a home.

(I'll post pics of the final product later)

Jingle Bells Already?

I woke up the other night to the sound of jingling bells. It was pitch black & I had no idea what the sound would have been. I lay there in my bed wondering if I had been dreaming, but then I heard it again-IN THE ROOM! I grabbed my phone to see what time it was-5:15AM...in the dim light of my cell phone I could see Grayden moving around in his crib. Then I remembered the stuffed dog in his crib with a bell inside! I went and got my camera & he looked as surprised as I was to find him playing quietly in his bed. He had no plan on going back to sleep, but he was so happy and playful I couldn't be too mad!

Countdown Chains

Trying to help Trinity understand the concept of time is harder than I thought it would be. I can help her make sense of hours or minutes by showing her where the hands on the clock will be when it is time for a certain event. However, when it comes to days, weeks, & months it is still pretty difficult. That is when we started doing countdown chains. The first time we planned a trip to go visit UT we made a countdown chain. She loved being able to cut of a link each night & see it get shorter until the day arrived that we were leaving.

A few days ago Trinity asked me if she could use my sewing machine to make something like I make. I tried to explain to her that it was a fun machine, but could also be dangerous to kids. I said something like, "When you get bigger I will teach you to use it." She looked at me and said, "Mom, when will I be BIG!? Can we make a countdown chain for WHEN I will be big?" So cute and if you ask me she is getting big way too fast!!

Here are some fun pics of her "Growing Up"

Crazy Legs

Grayden loves his swing & will usually play in it until he falls asleep. He was pretty fussy the other night, so I got it out thinking I was pretty sneaky & expected him to play and fall asleep as usual. This is what he decided to do instead...

It was like 10:30 at night & he was all hyped up on sugar or something! Look at those crazy legs! The swing is no longer my secret weapon, but at least Grayden still likes to play in it! And BTW as soon as I stopped recording him he let go of the toy & the crazy legs started at it again!

Brinley's Little Problem

My sweet little Brinley has a big problem-Her hair. Sure, it may look fine here other than being a little ragged from a tough night of sleep. But wait...
Do you see it? We are getting a small glimpse of the problem now...Ooh, an even better shot of the "problem area".Yea, that doesn't look good at all!WHOA! That thing really has a mind of it's own! I think we've made it mad because now it's standing in the attack stance. Serious precautions must be taken before tackling this beast! Any suggestions?Brinley doesn't mind though, out of sight out of mind right? What a cutie!

Tasty Little Devils

These really are some of the tastiest little things I have had in a LONG TIME! I now know how to make them & my plans for losing a few pounds are in serious jeopardy!! (I'll take Diets Broken in Under a Week for $500 please Alex!) This is my first attempt at making them & they didn't come out as "pretty" as I had hoped, but the taste was enough for me to overlook their blemished beauty!

In case you can't tell these are creme puffs. They are so light and creamy that you don't feel guilty downing two or three (or in my case 5 or 6) in one sitting. The vanilla and creme cheese filling is the clencher & I am so surprised that I had the self control to make them last a week! The next time I make them I'm hoping they will be a little more pleasing to the eye & then I won't have any excuses not to share them with friends and neighbors. Thanks so much for teaching me how to make this yummy treat Net!!

Doing this tag made me realize how grown up Trinity is getting! I am so grateful for Trinity and how much of a help she is to me. I am constantly asking her for help throughout the day & she is almost always glad to help. I think I expect a lot more from her than I should because she is the oldest & I sometimes forget that is only 3. She makes me laugh on a daily basis & shows so much love for her little sister and brother. She is always SO excited when Dad gets home & loves spending time with him. They are "buddies" We love you so much Trin and are so happy that you are part of our family!

Gross Cheese!!!

I was trying to think of something to make for dinner the other day & decided on grilled cheese sandwiches. Trinity and Brinley were dying to know what and when we would be eating, so after I told them I had a small conversation with Trinity that went something like this:

Me-We are going to have grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner!

Trin-NOOOOOO, I don't want to eat THAT!

Me-Why not, you love grilled cheese?

Trin-Our cheese is GROSS!

Me-You are being silly-you eat our cheese all the time!

Trin-No, I want something else for dinner! (whine, cry, whine...)

Just about then I pulled a stick of butter out of the fridge and realized exactly why Trinity did not want grilled cheese sandwiches.....take a look!

Apparently she got in the fridge to have some cheese without asking first and thought the stick of butter was a giant rectangular cheese stick! (I haven't used sticks of butter much in the past) I tried not to laugh as I explained to her that we would not be using the "Gross Cheese" for dinner. She was very relieved and agreed to eat her grilled cheese-hold the butter-sandwich.

Starting today...

So, I have been wanting to try and post something everyday & don't seem to have enough motivation to do it. However, when I was checking through my usual blogs I saw something on the side bar that said, "NaBloPoMo", and I was like..."What?" I decided to figure out just exactly what it was & was pleasantly surprised to find out that it means National Blog Posting Month. AND There is a challenge to do 30 posts in 30 days for the month of November, so I have decided to start even though I am a little late & finish up on Dec 10th. Wish me luck!!

Mo-Hawk to Fo-Hawk

Grayden had his first haircut & is pretty much totally blond now, can you believe it!! All my babies start out with these full heads of dark hair & then it turns blond! Graydens definitely went blond the fastest & I think he looks so much like Matt now!!

I didn't want to stress out trying to cut his hair myself, and the lady who cuts my hair said if I brought him in on her slow day that she'd do it for free. So I took him on Wed & he sat there like a champ! It was so cute to see him so tiny sitting in the big'ol chair!! (I brought his Bumbo for him to sit in so I could take pics & it worked out great!!)Wow, look at that tall Mo-hawk!!He was OBSESSED with the black arm on the chair & would NOT stop looking at it!Ah-Ha! A book to look at instead of the black arm on the chair!Handsome little fo-hawk, so much better!!

And we won't talk about locking my keys in the car AGAIN! Good thing Wal-Mart was close by so I had something to do while I waited for Matt to come and rescue me & Grayden!!
