Our New Old Table

You read that right we got a new table, but since it was someone else's before we bought it that also makes it old. Either way I am in LOVE with it & I will tell you why. (I will also explain why it is currently in the basement)

First we got it for a STEAL of a deal because it was on consignment at a local furniture store. I was SO SO close to buying a table set that I'd had my eye on somewhere else, but we decided to check this other place out. Matt wasn't so sure when he saw it, but the minute my eyes discovered it I knew. Oh yes, that table will be mine! It cost us half the price of what we would have paid for the other table being considered!! Oh ya! Second it seats 8. Did you read that? I said, " IT SEATS 8"!! Now I am not committing to have 2 more children, but even if I did we would all fit around this table! How great is that? :) Oh, and it has a leaf in the center, so we can make it a little smaller if needed. Third I LOVE these little drawers. Yes, they actually pull out & I am so looking forward to keeping napkins, bibs, & a couple of small aprons in there for the kiddos to pull on before eating (or spilling) their food.Fourth two of the seats are actually connected making an awesome bench seat! I love the idea of using it as a decorative bench while we don't "need" it, but also being able to grab it & put the leaf in if we happen to need more seats. The list could go on about why I love this table so much but I will leave the list at four. For now anyway. The girls were so excited about our new table and wanted to hang out in the basement so they could sit at it for a while longer.

Now, why is it in the basement you ask? Well...one of my requirements to a new table was that it needed to be black. That is part of the reason that Matt passed it up so quickly when he saw it. I tried to talk him into buying it anyway, but he was afraid that I'd have buyers remorse after getting it home. I finally confessed that I was planning to sand it down and repaint/stain the whole thing. Matt gave me one of his, "Uh-hu. I'll believe that when I see it!" looks and agreed to get it on one condition - It had to stay in the basement until it was all finished :( He knows me too well.

We bought it 2 days before Thanksgiving & it sat downstairs looking so full of potential, but I was afraid to start for fear of making some huge mistake along the road to my dream table. However, I am happy to say that it has made a transition. With Matt's help it is on the verge of getting a fresh coat of paint & stain! (we are doing the whole table first & then we'll start on the chairs) Stay tuned for pictures of the transformation!! I know I'm excited-are you?

To Cut or not to Cut?

I can't stand it when babies have CRAZY hair! Sorry if you are a Mom whose baby has this problem, but for my kids...it drives me NUTS! Pasynne's hair has just crossed the line with me and I am so so tempted to cut it, and I don't mean a little trim, it needs a good BUZZ. Check out this rebellious hair! I'm just afraid if I cut it off I won't see anymore brown hair in the future. It won't be long until she turns blond on me and joins the other traitors! :)

Its Finally Winter in Wichita!

If you saw my last post then you already know that it snowed here last Sunday. Brinley has been asking for snow since Thanksgiving! Our kids have never known a winter without snow & I don't think Trinity was fully convinced it was winter because of the lack of fluffy freezing white stuff! As soon as the flakes started to fall the kids were out the door. I have a few videos of them playing, but I don't know if I'll be able to post them or not. One is of Brinley running around the yard singing, "I love the snow! I love it when it snows, when it snows at my house!" pretty darn cute! It snowed pretty much through the night & we woke up to a true winter wonderland. Trinity was off to school and Brinley could barely contain herself she was so excited to get out and play. She and Grayden were bundled and out the door by 8:30 am!
Grayden wasn't too keen on having snow in his face-can you blame him?

Once he realized that he was making foot prints in the snow he started yelling out, "Look at my foot prints Mom, look they are mine!" (Poor kid has to wear his sisters' hand-me-downs. First it was hot pink gloves & then on went the magenta snow pants! Honestly, he wasn't bothered by it in the least.)

Little man cleaning the snow off of Brinley's car; what a gentleman. I asked them if they were ready to come in and Brinley replied, "No, I'm just gonna stay out here and wait for Trinity to get home from school." (that was about 6 1/2 hours away) I chuckled and went in the warm house while they played some more. Man, I love having a fenced back yard! When Trin got home she was just as excited to have some time in the snow, but Brinley was all snowed out! (The rigorous job of getting kids in and out of snow clothes is an event in itself!)
Lucky for her Grayden was willing to come outside and be a moving target for her to practice throwing snow balls at. We went over all the "rules" of throwing snow, no throwing at faces, no throwing if you are standing too close, etc, etc. Two seconds later Grayden had snow in his face :( It was all in good fun, so I nicely told Trin NO MORE snowballs.
She turned around with that look in her eye and I thought for a minute I was safe. I was wrong. Just after I snapped this picture she launched the snow. I guarded my camera as if it were my own offspring, and we were running from live shrapnel of a grenade! She managed to get me in the back, and obediently threw no more snowballs. As glad as I was to go so long without snow and all the miserable side affects that come with it; freezing cold, slushy muck, wet socks & shoes, slippery dirty floors. I have to admit, it was beautiful to see our new surroundings in their clean white winter coat.
